SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Sustainability and social responsibility have always been a priority at San Isidro. Here are some of the ways that the lodge and reserve contribute to these important issues:

Sustainability:

  • Conservation project of 2,000 hectares of primary forest, forming a corridor between Antisana and Sumaco National Parks.
  • Registered in the Socio Bosque project, contributing to forest conservation.
  • Access to researchers and students to conduct projects in the reserve.
  • Compilation of inventories of flora, birds, frogs, insects, and edible plants.
  • Interpretive trail for relevant information about natural life, culture, history, and the importance of the reserve.
  • Use of biodegradable products and compost waste for our organic greenhouse.
  • Solar energy power for garden lighting and water heating.
  • Conservation of energy by using 220V equipment.
  • Water and energy saving by asking guests to join us in these efforts.
  • Annual sponsors of the Christmas Bird Count, with the highest species counts ever record for several consecutive years.

Social Responsibility:

  • Training to staff and community members in areas such as English, guiding, cooking, and artisanal crafts.
  • Support to Amazonian women by purchasing their handicrafts for sale in our shop, as well as their agricultural products used in our restaurant.
  • Development of innovative Amazonian products, including cocktails, jams, and preserves made from forest ingredients.
  • Priority to local organic suppliers.
  • Environmental education programs for children and youth in the community.
  • Guide training to offer proper interpretation of the natural, cultural, and archaeological attractions of the reserve.
